The Cardinals’ scatback sustained a knee injury on Thursday and was held out of action for the remainder of the week. Though Head Coach Bruce Arians said that their rookie running back’s injury was not serious, Ellington will not be able to assist the team this week in a game with playoff implications.
Fantasy Spin: Even if Ellington was well enough to take the field, it is reasonable for Cardinals brass to hold him out of action at less than 100 percent. Sunday’s matchup versus the 6-5 Eagles could determine playoff seeding, but it would be in the better interest for the team to preserve Ellington to make sure they have all hands on deck for a stretch run. Fantasy owners will have to monitor Ellington’s status closely going forward.
Rashard Mendenhall will remain atop the pecking order in the backfield, but even in Ellington's absence, Mendenhall is a desperation flex play at best. He is coming off of a game where he posted his highest yardage total since Week 2, but when that total sits at 78 yards, it's difficult for fantasy owners to have confidence
