Fantasy football projections, Week 16: Falcons vs. 49ers featuring Steven Jackson, Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis

We break down the Week 16 matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the San Francisco 49ers.

The Week 16 matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the San Francisco 49ers features a soft defense against a top-notch one. We've got all the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Atlanta Falcons

Running back Steven Jackson hasn't exactly had what one would call a dream fantasy season. He was injured for most of the first two months, getting hurt in his second game as a Falcon. Since returning, he's only surpassed 20 carries in a game once. The good news for his owners is that he is finding the end zone at the right time of the season. Jackson scored twice last week despite managing just 38 yards rushing against a normally porous Washington Redskins defense.

If Jackson has trouble against the 49ers, quarterback Matt Ryan will be trying to connect with Roddy White in the passing game. White appeared to finally have a breakout game against the Buffalo Bills back in Week 13, but he hasn't found the end zone in the two ensuing games. White has amassed 13 catches in those games, but that may not be enough of a enticement to start him this week against San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers

Michael Crabtree is a popular pick for a big game in the fantasy community this week. There are many reasons for that. First, Crabtree's a possession receiver, which gives him a nice boost in value in PPR leagues. Secondly, he caught five passes and a touchdown last week, both of which are his personal season highs. Lastly, the Falcons' secondary is among the worst in the NFL, meaning Crabtree should have lots of opportunities to put up some big numbers.

Anything Crabtree doesn't catch will probably end up in the hands of tight end Vernon Davis. Davis needs two touchdowns in the team's last two games to eclipse his career-high of 13, set back in 2009. Judging how bad the Atlanta defense has been this year, Davis could well get both of those scores this week, which would sit fine with fantasy owners playing for a title.
