Fantasy football start/sit advice Week 14: Demaryius Thomas faces biggest test of the season

Demaryius Thomas and the Denver Broncos boast the league’s top offense, but will have their work cut out for them versus a tenacious Tennessee Titans secondary. We break down the fantasy implications.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was limited in practice on Thursday, which is just one of the factors working against him this week.

Thomas was also limited on Wednesday with a shoulder injury, but is in no danger of missing Sunday's game versus the Tennessee Titans. Even for a high-octane passing attack like the one Thomas is part of, the Broncos' receivers will be given all they can handle by a secondary that has allowed only eight passing touchdowns on the season and just two since Week 4.

The Titans are led by shutdown cornerback Alterraun Verner, who is reason No. 1 why the Titans have allowed the fewest fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Verner has allowed just 24 passes thrown his way to be completed and zero touchdowns. Opposing quarterbacks have a rating of 30.1 when throwing in his direction, which is a figure that no cornerback in the league has bested.

Fantasy Spin: Despite Thomas' tough draw, he simply has too much upside to be benched after scoring five touchdowns over his last five games and finding a way to put up points in hotly-contested battles. Though Verner and company have shut down just about every wide receiver they have faced this season, they still may be outmatched by what Peyton Manning and the Broncos bring to the table.

With the Titans coverage so sound on the perimeter and deep, the Broncos may turn to Julius Thomas and Wes Welker as primary options along the seams. Despite that, Thomas can be penned in as a high-upside WR1 option as usual.
