When the Chicago Bears brought in Marc Trestman, everyone was focused on how he would improve the passing attack and make best use of quarterback Jay Cutler, but few actually mentioned the best weapon on that offense: running back Matt Forte.
Matt Forte impresses against Chargers, reminds fantasy owners he still exists
Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte made his presence known in the second week of the preseason. We break down the fantasy implications.

On Thursday against the San Diego Chargers, Forte looked good. He carried the ball eight times, which is a bit more than expected, and rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown, with a per-carry average of 9.3 yards. Forte has managed over 900 rushing yards in all of his five seasons in the league, and has had over 450 receiving yards in four out of five seasons.
Cutler can’t be depended on to win a game on his own, and with the way the Bears used Forte against the Chargers, that became clear. This will not be a solely pass-equipped team, and the lack of Forte discussion to this point is probably more closely attributed to the fact that Forte is a known commodity.
Fantasy Impact: Forte, as noted, has been a very productive running back in recent years. He’s a popular choice for fantasy owners, and if you were scared off at all by the lack of discussion about him this offseason, worry no more. Forte is here to stay and he’ll likely be a big part of the offense going forward.
