Alex Smith completed seven of his 16 pass attempts for 62 yards in Friday's preseason game against the 49ers. He finished with a passer rating of 54.7 thanks to a dull 3.6 yards per attempt.
Alex Smith continues his check-down fest, time to worry about Dwayne Bowe for fantasy?
Alex Smith hasn’t been the most aggressive quarterback this preseason. We break down the fantasy implications.

The most discouraging thing about Smith is that he’s targeted his receivers just three times of his 24 pass attempts. He was also hit pretty hard by the Niners and that’s been a bit of a bugaboo for him as a quarterback.
Fantasy impact: The first thing that comes to mind to fantasy owners is whether or not they should be concerned with Dwayne Bowe. When push comes to shove, the Chiefs don't really have any other reliable options at receiver, so despite the dink and dunk of Smith, Bowe still offers a very nice upside as a high-end WR2.
Andy Reid will be very careful and use Jamaal Charles in the passing game a lot, so Smith does have a fairly high floor as a QB2. That said, owners drafting backup QBs should aim high and roll the dice in hopes they can strike gold. We're not targeting Smith.
