Cowboys rookie tight end Gavin Escobar caught his first touchdown pass of the preseason on Saturday.
Gavin Escobar catches first touchdown of preseason, immediate fantasy value remains minimal
The rookie product out of San Diego State showed his ability in the receiving game, catching all of his targets on Saturday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Escobar saw extended action in the Cowboys’ third preseason game and showed his versatility and competence in the passing game. Five targets came Escobar’s way and the San Diego State product caught all of them, totaling 32 yards.
Fantasy Spin: The Cowboys like Escobar's potential in the receiving game, but he is not of the mold of a complete tight end like his teammate, Jason Witten. But it isn't Witten who Escobar will have to compete with for snaps as much as it is Dwayne Harris and Terrance Williams. Williams has had a strong camp thus far despite a slow start, and Harris logged a six-catch performance, although he fumbled the ball away on one occasion on Saturday.
Even so, none of Williams, Harris or Escobar will surpass the incumbent Dez Bryant, Miles Austin or Jason Witten in targets, so the road remains too long for Escobar to be fantasy relevant in 2013. He's of use for dynasty owners to stash away, but nothing more as of now.
