New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith is practicing on Monday, for the first time since his "brutal" practice on Aug. 14. Smith injured his ankle in a preseason game and didn't look right in practice, perhaps due to rushing back instead of giving it some time to heal.
Geno Smith back in practice, ‘looks sharp’ as Jets QB battle continues
Geno Smith is back in practice and is moving well on his ankle. We break down the fantasy implications.

In the meantime, Mark Sanchez took all of the first team reps and got another preseason start while Smith sat on the sidelines. Sanchez didn't exactly put the battle away, however, completing 13 of 23 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown and an interception against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the first game, Sanchez completed 10 of 13 passes for 125 yards with a touchdown and an interception against the Detroit Lions in a losing effort.
Now, Smith is practicing, and according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, Smith is “moving OK” on his ankle. Hes also working with the first team, and according to Jane McManus of ESPN New York, Smith looks sharper.
Fantasy Impact: The Jets still have a quarterback battle ongoing. Fantasy owners may want to stay away from Sanchez and his mistake-prone style of football, but Smith is still an unknown commodity and has a lot of boom-or-bust potential. He could put up some surprising number if he wins the battle, and getting back to practice is the first step.
