Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is back at team practice and wil play with the starters against the Tennessee Titans on Saturday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Gonzalez has been absent for the past three weeks of training camp, but not due to injury or anything like that.
Tony Gonzalez to play Saturday; should be good for 1 more fantasy season
Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez is back with the team and will play on Saturday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Gonzalez simply had personal time off, as part of his agreement to come out of retirement and play one more season for Atlanta. Gonzalez has been keeping up with training camp via his iPad, and also has been keeping in shape, which is why he will play on Saturday. It’s likely he will see about as much time as the rest of the starters before sitting out the fourth game, as per usual for starters in the preseason.
Last season, Gonzalez managed 93 receptions for 930 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s clearly going to be ready for this season and the missed time shouldn’t be a concern, not after 16 seasons in the NFL, four of which have been with the Falcons.
Fantasy Impact: Seeing Gonzalez in action is always a treat. He hasn’t broken 1,000 receiving yards wince his time in Kansas City, so he may not be the top tight end drafted anymore, but if he looks plenty fresh in the preseason, fantasy owners should be looking to add him to their team. He’s still a solid starting tight end for any team out there, and after Saturday, you’ll probably be able to draft with confidence.
