The Indianapolis Colts host the Cleveland Browns in the annual "dress rehearsal" preseason game. Most of the starters will play the entire first half, if not more, so this is a good chance for fantasy players to see how the teams will look heading into the regular season. Time to start thinking about Weeden?
Brandon Weeden’s rookie year didn’t go so well, but he’s been almost flawless in the preseason, completing 18 of 25 passes for 229 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. New offensive coordinator Norv Turner has a reputation as a QB whisperer, and his latest project appears to be paying dividends already. Weeden is worth a look as a QB2 in 12- and 14-team leagues.
Jordan Cameron gaining more fans
Tight end Jordan Cameron was being touted as a sleeper in some fantasy circles, but that was before his explosive performance last week put him on the map. There’s plenty of room on the bandwagon, though, judging by his eight round ADP. Strike while the iron is hot--he’s a potential fantasy star in the making in a weak year for TEs.
Who is Trent Richardson’s handcuff?
Montario Hardesty served that role last year, but he missed most of camp with injuries and fell behind Dion Lewis on the depth chart. Unfortunately, Lewis broke his leg and is out for the year, so it's down to Brandon Jackson, Miguel Maysonet and Jamaine Cook. Those names don't exactly inspire confidence. Richardson has shown that he can play through injuries, so you can probably afford to go without a handcuff here.
T.Y. Hilton on the rise
Hilton started training camp behind Darrius Heyward-Bey on the depth chart, but he's outplayed DHB in almost every facet of the game. He can clinch the starting job with another strong showing on Saturday and has WR3 upside. Heyward-Bey is not starting material and fantasy owners should hope the Colts realize that as well. Hilton is too talented to keep off the field.
Sorting out Indy’s TE situation
Coby Fleener had a disastrous preseason and is dealing with a sore knee. He had some intrigue coming into the season in Pep Hamilton's two-TE offense, but this is a discouraging step backwards. Dwayne Allen is also injured and won't play the rest of the preseason. It's hard to trust these two right now after both had promising rookie years, but with the TE pool being so thin this year, you could do worse as late-round fliers.
