Him sitting out the preseason finale is a pretty good indicator that they plan on using him as their feature back and bell-cow of their offense. St. Louis runs a system that primarily relies on one running back, as they have with Steven Jackson for years before letting him walk this offseason.
Richardson had just 34 yards on nine carries in the preseason.
Fantasy Impact: Going from someone like Jackson to a player like Richardson can be jarring. And at the end of the day, Richardson might end up being a solid running back this season, and he might even be a strong fantasy play. Him missing the preseason finale is a good sign for fantasy owners, but he still isn’t a smart option to depend on as anything other than a reserve, at least until he starts popping off multiple 100-yard games to start the season.
