We break down the fantasy projections for the Week 2 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears.
Minnesota Vikings
Although he didn't post the rushing totals he'll the need in order to break Eric Dickerson's rushing record in Week 1, Adrian Peterson still received plenty of touches and managed 93 yards on the ground to go with four catches for 18 yards and three scores against the Detroit Lions. Purple Jesus started the game off with a 77-yard touchdown run on the Vikings' first play from scrimmage. Fantasy owners need not worry about Soldier Field's turf being worn out from a University of Illinois home game scheduled beforehand, either, as Peterson has proven to be half-man, half-machine over the past year.
Other players to watch for Minnesota include Jerome Simpson, who finished with an outstanding line of seven receptions for 140 yards. Simpson outperformed off-season acquisition Greg Jennings, who only managed to catch three passes for a total of 33 yards. Tight end Kyle Rudolph also figures to get more involved with the passing game as he only managed a pair of catches last week and the Bears did give up the eighth most fantasy points to tight ends last week.
Chicago Bears
Coach Marc Trestman looks like he has successfully transitioned to the NFL from the Canadian Football League. That seems to favor quarterback Jay Cutler, who looked steady in a 24-21 win over the Cincinnati Bengals last week. Cutler finished with 242 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception, but figures to post even better numbers against Minnesota this week.
As Cutler goes, so goes his teammates. This would seem to favor wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who finished last week’s contest against the Bengals with eight catches for 104 yards and his first touchdown of the season. Although there’s no doubt he’ll be heavily defended by Minnesota, that’s never been a problem for Marshall before because he’s one of the true premier wide receivers in the game today.
