Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 3: 5 QBs to target

Here are five quarterbacks that may be sitting on the waiver wire in your fantasy league and are worth picking up.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

After two weeks of the 2013 season, we’re starting to get a feel for what direction the quarterbacks are going. With the bye weeks coming up, there are still some interesting fantasy options sitting on the waiver wire. We’ll take a look at five quarterbacks owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues that are worth keeping an eye on.

Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams (owned in 47 percent of leagues)

Bradford has been throwing a lot with the Rams' running game struggling. He had 55 attempts in Sunday's loss to the Falcons, piling up 352 yards and two touchdowns. Most of those were garbage time stats after the Rams fell behind 24-3, but Bradford remains a worthy QB2 that can be streamed during the bye weeks.

Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers (owned in 39 percent of leagues)

Rumors of Rivers' demise may be greatly exaggerated. He looks much better in Mike McCoy's stripped-down offense and matched Michael Vick blow-for-blow in a thrilling shootout, throwing for 419 yards and three touchdowns. He has appealing matchups coming up with the Titans, Raiders, Colts and Jaguars. Grab him while you can.

Terrelle Pryor, Oakland Raiders (owned in 24 percent of leagues)

Pryor didn't quite have a field day against the Jaguars like people expected, but it was another competent performance. He's not a recommended play against the Broncos next week, but he has a juicy Week 4 matchup against Washington's Keystone Cops defense. For that matter, I recommend starting all quarterbacks against Washington until they prove they can stop anyone.

E.J. Manuel, Buffalo Bills (owned in 18 percent of leagues)

It’s still early to tell too much, but Manuel hasn’t embarrassed himself so far, leading the Bills on a dramatic last-minute drive to get his first NFL win. He’s still in a run-heavy, dink-and-dunk offense, but the Bills could open up the playbook later in the season if he earns the coaches’ trust.

Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins (owned in 15 percent of leagues)

People are still sleeping on Tannehill even though he has the Dolphin off to a 2-0 start and threw for over 300 yards in the win over the Colts. More importantly, he gets the Falcons and Saints in the next two weeks in potential shootouts. Tannehill has a real chance to reach QB1 status this season.
