Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 tight ends to target in Week 3

We look at five tight ends that are worth picking up off the waiver wire this week.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

With two weeks in the books, the fantasy world is well under way. A rash of injuries will send owners scrambling to the waiver wire this week, but which ones are worth picking up? Also, more importantly, are they actually available in your league?

We’re here to help out with that. Here are five tight ends owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues worth looking at.

Tyler Eifert, Cincinnati Bengals (owned in 19 percent of leagues)

With Jermaine Gresham still in the fold, the rookie Eifert probably won’t see any TE1 value as the two poach each other’s targets. Still, he had a promising debut with five catches for 47 yards and is going to be a big part of Cincinnati’s offense. At worst, he’s worth considering as a Dynasty stash.

Coby Fleener, Indianapolis Colts (owned in 11 percent of leagues)

Fleener had a big day on Sunday, hauling in four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. He almost got a second touchdown that was nullified by a penalty. With Dwayne Allen still hobbled by a hip injury, Fleener remains the favorite to lead all Colts tight ends in targets. The biggest concern is his matchups--he has the Seahawks and 49ers sandwiched in with the Jaguars and Chargers.

Charles Clay, Miami Dolphins (owned in 3 percent of leagues)

Clay won't make the Dolphins miss Dustin Keller, but he proved that he deserves more targets in their win over the Colts. Clay grabbed five catches for 109 yards and got a touchdown on a running play. He now has 163 yards through two games and has appealing matchups coming up against the Falcons and Saints. He's worth considering in your flex spot as long as the Dolphins keep airing it out.

Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins (owned in 1 percent of leagues)

The Redskins defense is bad. How bad? They're the first team since 1967 to give up 1,000 yards in the first two games. That means the offense will be spending plenty of time in comeback mode, and provide plenty of targets for pass catchers. Reed outplayed starter Fred Davis in the blowout loss to Green Bay, leading the Redskins tight ends in catches and yards. He now has 56 yards and a touchdown in two games. Finally, he'll be facing the Lions and Raiders in the next two weeks, all favorable matchups. Reed should be on the TE2 radar sooner than later.
