The Indianapolis Colts promoted rookie wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers from the practice squad Thursday, adding him to the 53-man roster, according to Herald Bulletin sportswriter George Bremer. Rogers, an undrafted rookie, is expected to be active for Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Rogers played college football at Tennessee and was named first-team All-SEC after his sophomore year in 2011. He was suspended indefinitely from the team, later admitting to having failed three drug tests, before transferring to Tennessee Tech, where he set the school’s single-game records for receptions and receiving yardage, and passed 10 drug tests in the process, according to reports in February.
Fantasy impact: It's hard to see where Rogers slots in to the Colts' offense, with Reggie Wayne, Darrius Heyward-Bey and T.Y. Hilton all well above him. It's possible the team decided Rogers was merely the best available pass-catching option after having to put tight end Dwayne Allen on season-ending injured reserve.
Rogers did show flashes of great ability in college, so he’s at least worth monitoring in case the team starts to give him attention, but there’s little chance he becomes any kind of fantasy option in any leagues for the time being.
