Fantasy football projections: Buccaneers vs. Patriots features Doug Martin, Tom Brady, Julian Edelman

We break down the fantasy projections for the Week 3 matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

The week three matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots could be a close one with the two teams evenly matched. To help you sort out what this means for your fantasy roster we've got the fantasy projections courtesy of numberFire.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After a pair of closely contested games to start the season, the Bucs will look to come out on the better side of the score riding the legs of Doug Martin. After a slow start in the team's first game of the season against the New York Jets, Martin averaged 5 yards per carry against the New Orleans Saints in Week and finished with 144 yards on the ground. The Muscle Hamster will need support against an above average Patriots run defense.

That support will likely come from Vincent Jackson, who will face a Patriots pass defense that is probably playing a bit over their heads right now. Of course, Jackson's performance is linked to quarterback Josh Freeman, who has proved that he'll always be an average quarterback and has slid into the role of game manager over the past two seasons.

New England Patriots

As much as most fantasy football experts want to give Tom Brady the benefit of the doubt when it comes to turning receivers into superstars, Brady has struggled to get on the same page with the likes of Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson. As a result, Brady threw for just 185 yards and one touchdown against the New York Jets in Week 2.

The Patriots Hall of Fame quarterback may have to wait a while before reinforcements become available as Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski are not expected to play this week. That leaves Julian Edelman to lead the receiving corps. Edelman was targeted 18 times and caught 13 passes for 78 yards last week and will probably have to deal with shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis in Week 3.
