Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is still dealing with a hip pointer injury suffered in the team’s Week 3 game against the New York Giants. As a result of the injury, he sat out practice on Wednesday, according to the Charlotte Observer’s Joe Person.
Steve Smith injury update: Getting extra rest for hip pointer, fantasy owners need not worry
Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is getting some much-needed rest and practice to seal a hip pointer injury. We discuss the fantasy implications.

Fantasy impact: if there was ever a time for the team’s number one wide receiver to get hurt, it would be going into a bye week. The good news for fantasy owners is the Panthers just happened to be on their bye week in Week 4.
Smith has generally been healthy in recent years, missing eight games total over the last nine seasons he’s played. Seeing as how the Panthers’ next game is still two weeks away, fantasy owners shouldn’t be too worried right now about whether he’ll play in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Overall, his injury is worth keeping an eye on because he is quarterback Cam Newton’s go to guy and Carolina and even after all the years he’s been in the NFL, he still has the speed and hands of a number one receiver. For now of course, fantasy owners can still play whatever they had in mind to cover Smith’s bye week.
