Fantasy football projections, Cowboys vs. Chargers: Tony Romo, Dez Bryant smart bets

Tony Romo and Dez Bryant could be in line for big fantasy numbers against the San Diego Chargers in Week 4.

Jamie Squire

The Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers will face off in a Week 4 matchup on Sunday. The teams are pretty evenly matched, though the Cowboys find themselves with a winning record while the Chargers are fighting to get to .500 on the season. San Diego lost a close one last week, falling to the Tennessee Titans, 20-17. Dallas, on the other hand, dominated the St. Louis Rams in their game.

There should be a few solid fantasy performances in this game, so with some help from numberFire, we’ll take a look at some of the potential stars and what they’re projected to do. First up is San Diego:

Chargers

San Diego has been largely average when it comes to their offense, but there should be some solid chances against Dallas. Philip Rivers should be in line for a decent game, given Dallas’ No. 23-ranked pass defense, allowing 274.7 yards per game on average. Rivers is projected to throw for 250-plus yards and possibly a couple touchdowns.

Unfortunately, the running game will have a much tougher task. Ryan Matthews is the starter, but he’ll be going up against a Dallas defense that ranks second against the rush in the league, allowing just 66.3 yards per game. Matthews is projected to earn just over 50 yards, with the chances of him scoring a touchdown being under 50 percent. It should be interesting, to say the least.

Cowboys

Dallas should have a much easier time putting points on the board for this one. San Diego has the No. 32 passing defense in the league, the worst of the worst. They allow, on average, 340.7 yards per game. Tony Romo is projected to throw for over 260 yards and the chances of multiple touchdowns seems solid.

This means that wide receiver Dez Bryant could have a big game. Bryant is projected to earn 13.59 fantasy points and should be the primary target in the red zone. Running back DeMarco Murray is coming off a huge game, so the prospects of him rushing for under 70 yards, as projected, seem low, but it could still be a productive day, to be sure.
