The 2013 NFL season is officially underway, and Peyton Manning served notice that he is ready to carry your fantasy football team once again. Manning put together a performance for the ages, throwing for 462 yards and a record-tying seven touchdowns. He became the first quarterback since Joe Kapp in 1969 to throw seven touchdowns in a game. His 462 yards is good for 45th all-time.

The Denver Broncos had their way with the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night to open the 2013 NFL season, and Peyton Manning led the way. We break down his historic performance in terms of fantasy football.

The important question however, is how Manning performed from a fantasy football perspective. Under traditional scoring systems where a quarterback gets one point for every 25 yards, and four points for every touchdown, Manning finished with a shade over 46 points. That is a spectacular performance, and should be the top quarterback performance we see this season.
That being said, Manning's performance does not even qualify for the top five fantasy performances all time. Last year, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin rushed for 251 yards and four touchdowns, finishing with a 51.2 points on the day in basic leagues. It turns out, Martin's performance was good for fourth all time.
Jon Bois broke down Martin's performance in the pantheon of fantasy football performances, and put together a chart of the top single game fantasy performances of the Internet Era. Clinton Portis topped the charts with 55.4 points in 2003. The list of players with 45 or more fantasy points includes Portis, Martin, Shaun Alexander, Corey Dillon, Michael Vick, Jerry Rice, Mike Anderson and Jimmy Smith.
