Packers fantasy football recap: Aaron Rodgers shares the wealth; 5 players score TDs

The Green Bay quarterback hit three receivers for TDs and let two running backs score as well. We break down the fantasy implications.

Mike McGinnis

After starting 1-2, the Green Bay Packers have rolled off four straight wins, three of them in convincing fashion, to get to 5-2. Sunday's win was one of the three, 38-17 over the Carolina Panthers.

The Packers scored the first 28 points and at the start of the fourth quarter led 38-3 in the beatdown of Carolina. Green Bay scored five touchdowns, with all five going to different players.

Let’s look at the fantasy names and numbers:

Aaron Rodgers: The star quarterback put up 20-plus fantasy points for the second straight game and fourth time all season in his 24-point outing Sunday. He threw for 255 yards on 19-of-22 passing, with three touchdowns, adding 21 rushes on three carries. That was good for a 154.5 passer rating and a 94.3 QBR in the game. There were some concerns about Rodgers early in the year, but at this point, only Peyton Manning and (maybe) Andrew Luck are safer bets than Rodgers.

Eddie Lacy: We're still waiting for more consistency from the second-year back, but he did put up his third double-digit fantasy day in his last four Sunday. Lacy ran for 63 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, adding 10 yards on three catches. His 5.3 yards per carry average was the second-best number Lacy has had all season. You'd like more total yards, but 12 fantasy points still makes fantasy owners happy. His backup, James Starks, contributed 36 yards and a score on seven carries. Lacy remains a must-start, though he's no longer one of the league's top handful of running backs.

Jordy Nelson: Nelson had a touchdown and 80 yards on four catches Sunday, with all that production coming in the first few minutes of the game. Even barely being a factor against the Panthers, Nelson put up 14 fantasy points, his fifth time this season with at least that many points. He's just dominant right now, and has to be out there on every team in every week.

Randall Cobb: Sure, Cobb might not be quite as good as Nelson overall, but he put up 18 fantasy points in Sunday's game, with 121 yards and a touchdown on six catches. Cobb now has at least nine fantasy points six times in seven games, with eight touchdowns in that time. Just like Nelson, Cobb is an every-week must-start.

Davante Adams: It's not a three-headed monster in Green Bay, even though the rookie Adams scored a touchdown Sunday. The score came on Adams' only catch -- and only target -- against Carolina, a 21-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. He's been producing reasonable well of late, with at least seven fantasy points in three straight games, but you need more consistency to play him. He's a nice stash, though.
