San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews has started doing some on-field work, but he could be out through the team's Week 10 bye, according to Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune. Mathews was ruled out for Thursday's game against the Denver Broncos early in the week, and he doesn't appear close to returning.
Ryan Mathews could be out until after bye week; no fantasy value for now
San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews could be out until after the bye week. We break down the fantasy implications.

After Thursday's game against the Broncos, the Chargers play the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 before their bye. They're sitting at 5-2 this season and probably have the luxury of letting Mathews sit out to fully heal from his injuries. It also helps that rookie Branden Oliver is playing well in his absence. Oliver has 72 carries for 316 yards (4.4 yards per carry) and two touchdowns.
Fantasy Impact: Mathews was struggling before going down with injury, too. He had 23 carries for just 71 yards and a touchdown before sustaining his injury. However, he never really received an opportunity to get going. If fantasy owners have kept him around, he’s worth holding for now, but a return after the bye week does seem the most likely at this point.
