Kicker Matt Prater has signed with the Detroit Lions on a one-year contract. Prater is the third kicker to suit up for the Lions this season, though he has shown the most in the past and there's a lot more confidence in his abilities than the others who have been with the team. Detroit drafted Nate Freese in the seventh round this offseason, but he was released after making just three of seven field goal attempts.
Matt Prater signed by Lions, has immediate fantasy value
Matt Prater has a new team in the Detroit Lions. We break down the fantasy implications.

Then they brought in Alex Henery, who wound up going 1-of-5 over the past two weeks and Detroit released him, too. Prater worked out with the team on Tuesday, along with Jay Feely and Connor Barth. Prater made 25 of 26 field goals for the Denver Broncos a season ago, but he was released by the team after coming off a four-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy.
Fantasy Impact: Prater wasn’t released due to poor play and that’s a big start for the Lions. They’ve had significant issues this season and any fantasy owner who invested in Freese or Henery has to be unhappy at this point. Prater is now a must-own for any fantasy owner with an iffy kicking situation, as there’s not a whole lot of reason to suspect he’s regressed at this point.
