The good news for fantasy owners is that Week 12 is the last week of byes, and there are only two teams off this week. The bad news is that the Carolina Panthers are on bye, taking Greg Olsen off the board in an already thin tight end market.
Fantasy football waiver wire: 4 tight ends to target for Week 12
No Greg Olsen this week? Hopefully no problem. Here are some waiver wire tight ends who could guide you through the final bye week.
Tight end remains the most barren position in fantasy this season, and if you’re looking to the waiver wire for help then you may already be out of luck with the playoffs coming up. Still, here are four options owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues that might help ease the pain.
Mychal Rivera, Oakland Raiders (41 percent) -- Rivera has been a hot asset in recent weeks, emerging as one of Derek Carr's most trusted targets. He didn't quite live up to expectations in Week 11, getting just three catches for 40 yards. Rivera's five targets were still second on the team behind Andre Holmes, and he should keep being a decent TE2 filler against the Kansas City Chiefs next week.
Coby Fleener, Indianapolis Colts (40 percent) -- Dwayne Allen suffered a high-ankle sprain and could be out for the rest of the fantasy season, so Fleener is the new No. 1 tight end in Indianapolis. He proved to be up to the task on Sunday night, grabbing seven catches for 144 yards. With Ahmad Bradshaw likely lost for the year, the Colts will need to rely on Andrew Luck and the passing game more than ever. Fleener has another big opportunity to go off against the Jacksonville Jaguars defense next Sunday.
Owen Daniels, Baltimore Ravens (38 percent) -- Daniels made a surprisingly quick return from a knee scope that kept him out of Week 8. While he only got 20 yards on two catches against the Tennessee Titans in Week 10, Daniels has now had the bye week to rest up and faces a crumbling New Orleans Saints defense in Week 12. The aging veteran still carries value in deeper leagues.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (six percent) -- ASJ's rookie season is starting to play out like the Star Trek movies -- the even-numbered entries are always better. In Week 8, he had 26 yards and a touchdown on three catches, and in Week 10 he racked up 30 yards and a score on five catches. Different story for the odd weeks -- ASJ had only one catch for 3 yards in Week 9 and got just one catch for 7 yards in Week 11. We try not to place numerical superstitions on our fantasy advice, but Week 12 is an even number and the Bucs face the Chicago Bears, whose defense can't stop anyone right now. You could do worse than simply following the statistical trends on a rookie TE2.
