With running back Ahmad Bradshaw on the shelf for the rest of the season, the Indianapolis Colts had two options left to get carries. One was Trent Richardson, who since joining Indianapolis has done little to show he can be a big-time running back. The second, second-year player Dan Herron, got his first extended look in Sunday's game. The two backs basically split carries in the Colts' 23-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

A new name was heard from in the Indianapolis running game Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

Herron ran the ball 12 times Sunday for 65 yards, an average of 5.4 yards per carry. Richardson scored a touchdown and had one more carry than Herron, but with only 42 rushing yards, his average was only 3.2. Herron added five catches for 31 yards in the game, while Richardson didn’t catch any passes. Herron also lost a fumble.
Fantasy impact: Ultimately, the Indianapolis running situation is going to be murky and tough to use the rest of the season. Neither Herron nor Richardson promises to be a helpful every-week starter, though in a desperate situation, they both play in a strong enough offense in Indianapolis that they could offer quantity over quality.
Ultimately, if you are going to roster one of the two Colts backs, Herron makes more sense, despite Richardson’s touchdown Sunday -- we know Richardson is unlikely to be anything special, while Herron at least has untapped potential.
