The Cleveland Browns' ongoing quarterback battle continues. Head coach Mike Pettine confirmed on Thursday that Brian Hoyer will get the start in Monday's preseason game against Washington.
Brian Hoyer getting the start on Monday, Johnny Manziel continues fight for 2014 fantasy relevance
Brian Hoyer is getting the nod over Johnny Manziel on Monday, but both are expected to get equal time with the first team. We break down the fantasy implications.

Pettine didn't close the door on Johnny Manziel, though, noting that the two quarterbacks will both work with the first team and will get an even amount of snaps. Hoyer played with the ones in last week's game against the Detroit Lions, while Manziel worked with the second and third teams. Hoyer completed 6-of-14 passes for 92 yards, and Manziel went 7-of-11 for 63 yards.
Fantasy impact: Manziel is closing the gap on Hoyer, although the coaching staff is making him earn the starting job every step of the way. Cleveland should have its Week 1 starter decided sometime around the third preseason game, if not before. Monday’s performance will go a long way toward that final decision. Hoyer is by all accounts a competent NFL quarterback, but Manziel adds more excitement with his legs and fearless playing style. Neither player is a compelling fantasy option for 2014, although Manziel is an obvious hold in Dynasty league.
