Cincinnati Bengals running back Rex Burkhead (knee) will miss the first month of the season, according to the team's official website. Burkhead appeared in just a single game in 2013 and did not record a carry.
Rex Burkhead out a month, in fantasy exile for now
The Bengals running back injured his knee in the preseason and will have to sit out a while. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: Coming into the summer and now the regular season, Burkhead was expected to be on the team's roster as a special teams contributor rather than getting carries out of the backfield for the Bengals. He's actually the fourth running back on the team's depth chart behind Giovani Bernard, Jeremy Hill, and Cedric Peerman.
Given that Hill had 160 total yards on 26 touches in the team’s preseason finale, Bernard is a clear-cut starter and Peerman is healthy, it will be hard for Burkhead to gain any meaningful touches in the offense.
Fantasy owners who consider Burkhead at any point in the season will likely only do so if the Bengals’ backfield gets decimated by injuries.
