The Oakland Raiders are the first team to name a rookie quarterback their Week 1 starter -- according to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Derek Carr will get the start against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Derek Carr named starting quarterback, has little fantasy value
The Raiders pulled the trigger on their second-round rookie, naming Derek Carr the Week 1 starter instead of Matt Schaub. We break down the fantasy implications.

Carr gets the nod over Matt Schaub after an impressive performance against the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason finale, completing 11-of-13 passes for 143 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Raiders traded for Schaub hoping to use him as a veteran placeholder, but Carr forced Oakland's hand after Schaub had a miserable preseason.
Fantasy impact: Carr prooved he gives the Raiders a better chance to win than Schaub, but rookie quarterbacks are always a risky proposition in fantasy. Outside of deep two-quarterback leagues, fantasy players would be wise to sit and see how Carr performs against the Jets, although their paper-thin secondary gives him a slight advantage. In the meantime, look for Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden to get plenty of carries while Carr gets eased into the offense. He's someone to watch on the waiver wire.
