Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (ribs) will not have restrictions against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. He missed Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has been dealing with a hairline fracture in his ribcage since last month.
Cam Newton will not have restrictions as a QB1 for fantasy owners
Cam Newton’s rib injury has subsided enough for him to play without any restrictions. We break down the fantasy implications.

Considering the amount of contact Newton will take during the game, it should be interesting to see how he handles hits in the open field. He's never been bashful to tuck it and run, and the Panthers are going to be very thin in the offensive weapons department. Running back DeAngelo Williams (thigh) is not expected to play, so it'll mostly be Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen and Jonathan Stewart to help Cam.
Fantasy impact: Considering how great Benjamin has looked, Cam could have some success through the air. The Lions are effective up front, but they have some holes in their secondary no matter how horrible the New York Giants looked in Week 1. Newton serves as a solid QB1 and fantasy owners shouldn't bench him unless another one of their quarterbacks has an awesome matchup.
