Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin will not play against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. He suffered a knee injury in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers and did not return.
Doug Martin (knee) will not play in Week 2 for fantasy owners
Doug Martin won’t play in Week 2 and Bobby Rainey will start in his stead. We break down the fantasy implications.

It’s been mostly optimistic news on Martin all week, so this comes out of nowhere. Coach Lovie Smith has said the injury is minor and Martin went through some practice this week, and all the while the Tampa Bay Times reported that Martin would likely play on Friday.
The Bucs aren’t likely going to have a tough time against the Rams, so they should have the ball a lot. Plus, they will likely have great field position given the issues at quarterback.
Fantasy impact: Hopefully you will be able to get Martin out in time with this news coming out just before the 1:00 EDT games start. Martin’s injury isn’t going to keep him out long, so Rainey’s fantasy value is just short-term. Still, the Bucs figure to run the ball a lot, which makes Rainey a solid RB2 play.
