Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 3: 4 tight ends to watch

In a fantasy crunch due to injuries? Here are some tight ends on the wire who could help you.

Doug Pensinger

Tight end is notorious for being the thinnest position in fantasy -- a single injury can derail multiple weekly matchups if you don’t plan ahead. Despite the rash of injuries throughout Week 2, the tight end position was relatively unscathed. That said, you should always be looking for good matchups and potential breakouts, so here are four tight ends owned in less than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues worth a look on the waiver wire.

Waiver Wire Targets: QB RB WR TE Injury Replacements

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs (37 percent)

Andy Reid promised to get Kelce more involved in the offense after Week 1, and he delivered on that promise last Sunday. Kelce played on 32 of 86 snaps, securing four passes for 81 yards. With Jamaal Charles out indefinitely, the Chiefs badly need players like Kelce to step up. He is more than capable of doing so and looks ready to break out after microfracture surgery wiped out his rookie season. Kelce will be in high demand in every fantasy league this week, and for good reason.

Larry Donnell, New York Giants (21 percent)

One big game is a fluke, but two big games is looking like a trend -- it's time to talk about Larry Donnell. Through two weeks, he has 12 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. He's probably not going away any time soon. Eli Manning loves using his tight end as a safety valve, and Donnell has proven to be up to the task. Keep him in the back of your head when the Giants host the Houston Texans next week.

Owen Daniels, Baltimore Ravens (12 percent)

Despite being stuck behind Dennis Pitta on the depth chart, Daniels knows Gary Kubiak's offense. He bagged two touchdowns last Thursday and gets the Cleveland Browns in Week 3. Daniels is barely starting material, but he's worth monitoring if Pitta goes down.

Niles Paul, Washington (5 percent)

It's the Kirk Cousins show in D.C. with Robert Griffin III out. Cousins took over when Griffin dislocated his ankle, and his first order of business was feeding Paul, who replaced an injured Jordan Reed. Cousins and Paul went on to prove that preseason probably means something after all -- the two second-stringers hooked up early and often. Paul finished with eight catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. Reed's hamstring injury is expected to keep him out multiple weeks, so Paul has borderline TE1 upside thanks to his chemistry with Cousins.
