San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis did not practice on Thursday and was hobbling around without the use of crutches. He is a little closer to doubtful than to probable for Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Vernon Davis (ankle) could miss Week 3 for fantasy owners
Vernon Davis is still hobbling around at practice. We break down the fantasy implications.

He was tackled from behind in Week 2 against the Bears and could not finish the game. Davis hasn't had any noteworthy ankle injuries since 2010, but this doesn't appear to be a garden-variety sprain. The team will likely be be using third-year tight end Derek Carrier as the starter in a huge division game.
Fantasy impact: Even though there's a chance he could play, the 49ers play the late game on Sunday, so fantasy owners should be lining up an alternative play with Davis nowhere near 100 percent. If he's out, Colin Kaepernick will have to lean on Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and Stevie Johnson more. Crabtree would be a must-start play, even against Patrick Peterson and Co. Davis owners should obviously keep him stashed on their benches, and of course Carrier is not worth using in almost any circumstance.
