Fantasy football projections, Week 3: Packers-Lions featuring Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson
We break down the Week 3 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.

Green Bay Packers
After struggling to get in a groove against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on opening night, quarterback Aaron Rodgers put up some huge numbers against the New York Jets last week. Rodgers threw for 346 passing yards and 3 touchdowns against a Jets secondary that isn't nearly as good as its run defense. The Detroit Lions are similar in that sense, so Rodgers will once again go to the air this Sunday in a game that has the makings of a shootout, which is always good for fantasy owners.
When Rodgers does go down the field, which should happen early and often in Week 3, the ball will likely fall into the hands of wide receiver Jordy Nelson quite a bit. Nelson caught nine passes for 209 yards and a touchdown against the Jets last week. His outstanding yardage total gives him a stat line of 18 catches 292 yards and a touchdown after two games. Those totals make Nelson a must-start this week against the Lions.
Detroit Lions
Producing offensively proved to be a struggle for the Lions last week, but that's more a reflection of the stout defense the Carolina Panthers possess rather than the poor play of the Lions. That's why fantasy owners need not worry about Matthew Stafford going into Week 3. For one, Stafford opened the season with 22 completions for 346 yards and two touchdowns against the New York Giants in Week 1. Secondly, the Packers air attack is just as good as Detroit's, meaning both teams will be putting points on the board through the air this week, rather than focusing on defense.
Of course any big performance for Stafford usually goes hand in hand with a big day from wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Megatron still had 6 catches for 83 yards last week, which is a solid output considering the Lions only scored seven points in the game. He's been targeted 24 times and managed 13 receptions for 247 yards and two touchdowns through two weeks, so it's obvious he'll be counted on to tear up the Packers in Week 3.
