Fantasy football projections, Week 3: Cowboys-Rams featuring Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray and Brian Quick

We break down the Week 3 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Rams.

Frederick Breedon

The Week 3 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams features a beastly running game against a steady run defense. We've got the fantasy projections for you courtesy of numberFire.

Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray is looking like an absolute fantasy stud so far this season. The veteran has 285 yards rushing and two touchdowns through the first two weeks of the season. He'll be up against a Rams rush defense that has allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season, but fantasy owners should take that with a grain of salt. Murray put up 175 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Rams last season and given that he has 51 carries through the first two games of this season, he should see a lot of action this Sunday.

When the Cowboys aren't running the ball, they'll be looking to quarterback Tony Romo to make things happen through the air. Romo hasn't been the steadiest of passers so far this season, throwing for just a pair of touchdowns against three interceptions, while coming off a Week 2 performance against the Tennessee Titans that saw him throw for just 176 yards. The Rams have given up an average of 173 passing yards and a touchdown to start the season.

St. Louis Rams

Without a stable quarterback and a lackluster running game to start the season, the Rams' lone bright spot has been wide receiver Brian Quick. Quick has 14 catches for 173 yards so far this season, far and away making him the team's offensive leader. Though the Rams do struggle to move the ball down the field, Quick is probably the most likely option on the team for fantasy owners in deeper leagues who need a depth receiver capable of finding the end zone this week.

Given Austin Davis is an inexperienced quarterback and the likely starter for the Rams this Sunday, the team will be forced to rely on Zac Stacy in the running game. He was involved in 66 percent of the offensive snaps the team ran in Week 2, so it's obvious the Rams will be going back to him in the hopes he can find the end zone for the second week in a row. Stacy is a good option against the Cowboys, particularly in deeper leagues, but fantasy owners should note that Dallas has given up the second-fewest points to running backs this season, so Stacy's impending high usage could get canceled out.
