San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was held out of practice for the third consecutive day on Friday, and is being called a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup versus the Arizona Cardinals.
Vernon Davis injury update: Fantasy owners need to look elsewhere for TE, despite great matchup
The San Francisco 49ers will likely be without their start tight end versus the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.

During Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears, Davis suffered a "deep bruise" to his ankle, as described by beat reporter Matt Maiocco, and no structural damage was sustained. While that's good news, Davis was on crutches as recently as Wednesday and was unable to practice all week. There's more reason to believe Davis will sit on Sunday than there is to believe he will suit up.
Fantasy Spin: This is awful news for Davis’ fantasy owners, as he will likely miss his best matchup of the season. The Cardinals defense allowed Jimmy Graham-like numbers to opposing tight ends in 2013, and they appear to be on that same track once again. In 2013, Davis totaled 225 yards and three scores in their two matchups.
Derek Carrier will get the start at tight end should Davis be unable to go, and he gives fantasy owners a Hail Mary option for streaming. Davis' owners would be wise to scoop him up from waivers if they have the roster space.
