The Minnesota Vikings have placed quarterback Matt Cassel on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. Cassel broke multiple bones in his foot against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday and had to leave the game. He gave way to rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who is now expected to take over starting duties for the remainder of the season.
Matt Cassel placed on injured reserve, Teddy Bridgewater takes over; fantasy value low for now
Matt Cassel is out and Teddy Bridgewater is in thanks to a severe foot injury for the former. We break down the fantasy implications.

Bridgewater was beaten out for the starting job in training camp and the preseason, but few expected the Vikings to start him even had he outplayed the veteran. The plan always seemed to be to bring Bridgewater along slowly, but that’s now out the window.
Cassel injured his foot scrambling in the second quarter. He had to be carted to the locker room.
Fantasy Impact: Bridgewater completed 12 of 20 passes for 150 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. To this point, Cassel completed 41 of 71 passes for 425 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions. Cassel was not a strong fantasy option and Bridgewater doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence either. But if you’re intent on starting one of these guys, then Bridgewater is that guy going forward.
