Fantasy owners hopefully do not need to scrounge waiver wires for options before the season has even gotten underway. However, deep leagues always need to get creative to capitalize on matchups. Upside is the way to go, so here are a few under-the-radar tight ends who could have big games as your 2014 fantasy football season gets going.

We take a look at under-the-radar tight ends who could win fantasy matchups for Week 1.
Larry French
The Miami Dolphins offense is a big question mark heading into their 2014 opener. Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline are talented, but Charles Clay is the guy who could surprise people this year. It's hard to say even surprise, because he showed last year he can be a very solid contributor. Clay finished the season with 69 receptions for 756 yards and six touchdowns. Some owners might be gun-shy following a poor playoff run, but Clay is a guy to watch this season.
It was hard to figure out where exactly to draft Washington’s Jordan Reed. He put up strong numbers before a Week 11 concussion ended his season. Reed is listed as questionable due to a thumb injury, but he was a full participant in practice. It remains to be seen how long Reed will remain healthy, but as long as he is healthy, roll him out there.
Antonio Gates remains the starter for the San Diego Chargers, but if you have a dicey tight end situation, Green is a guy to look to. And Week 1 could be a big opening for him. Football Outsiders ranked the Arizona Cardinals No. 20 in defending tight ends, and now that defense has lost several key parts. If you have a solid starter at tight end, stick with him, but if you drafted poorly at the position, consider rolling out Green.
