A year ago, with all three Florida NFL teams struggling mightily, SB Nation’s Jon Bois wrote about how sad the state’s teams were. Things aren’t better in 2015, with the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars each sitting at 1-3. Sunday, Tampa Bay and Jacksonville play one another, so one of them should get a second win at last.
Fantasy football advice, Week 5: Who to start/sit for Jaguars vs. Buccaneers
All three Florida teams have been terrible. Two of them play each other Sunday, looking to be slightly less terrible.
Jacksonville is likely to be without tight end Julius Thomas for the fifth straight game, though he’s moving toward a 2015 debut, possibly in Week 6. Wide receiver Allen Hurns was also on the weekly injury report, though he should be fine for Sunday. On the Tampa Bay side, tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins will miss his third straight game with a shoulder injury.
The Buccaneers will host Sunday’s game, scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
JAGUARS
Start ‘em?: It’s been a noted improvement from Blake Bortles lately, averaging 17.7 fantasy points a game the last three weeks. His stock is rising. ... T.J. Yeldon has struggled to really take off as a rookie running back. He’s a flex play, but without a huge upside. ... The Jaguars have two strong Allens at wide receiver, with Allen Robinson a high-end flex option, and Allen Hurns more of a low-end option. ... The Jaguars’ defense has been fine outside of an awful Week 3 game. It’s a streaming option.
Sit ‘em: A week after Clay Harbor’s big game in Week 3, he bounced back with a lowly three fantasy points in Week 4, Until Julius Thomas returns, the team doesn’t have much at tight end. ... Jason Myers missed two crucial kicks last week. He’s a low-end option.
BUCCANEERS
Start ‘em: For one more week, Mike Evans will be the higher ranked of the Buccaneers’ top two wide receivers, but he needs to start putting up real numbers for that to continue.
Start ‘em?: Say what you will about Jameis Winston, who hasn’t been great, but he has put up at least 12 fantasy points in all four of his games this year. He’s a No. 2 quarterback, but appears to have a high floor. ... Doug Martin had a great Week 4, but his first three weeks matter as well, and he hasn’t been strong all told. He’s a flex play. ... After a disappointing 2014, Vincent Jackson has bounced back somewhat this season. He’s averaging 10 fantasy points a game. ... Historically, fantasy defenses have fared well against the Jaguars. That hasn’t held true so far this year, but it’s a ranking tradition that’s tough to buck, and the Buccaneers’ defense has potential this year.
Sit ‘em: If something were to happen to Martin, Charles Sims might make for an interesting fantasy option, but as it stands, he just doesn’t get enough play. ... Brandon Myers has offered very little production filling in for Austin Seferian-Jenkins. ... The Buccaneers will turn to Connor Barth at kicker after Kyle Brindza’s struggles, but fantasy owners should avoid.
