Fantasy football projections, Week 6: Falcons-Saints featuring Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Drew Brees
We break down the Week 6 matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints.
Atlanta Falcons
While the Atlanta Falcons managed to escape Week 5 with a victory over Washington, the win wasn’t exactly of the decisive variety. Quarterback Matt Ryan was particularly underwhelming. He was sacked three times, threw two interceptions and also lost a fumble in the game. In order for his fantasy value to continue to be there, Ryan is going to have to do a better job taking care of the football, especially considering the Falcons have a running game now. Devonta Freeman’s newly-found affinity for scoring on the ground could take away touchdown passes from Ryan. Matty Ice will need to be better against New Orleans, that’s for sure.
By extension the same can be said for wide receiver Julio Jones. Jones has nine catches for 105 yards in the last two games combined after looking absolutely unstoppable in the first three contests of the year. If it wasn’t for the fact he recovered a fumble for a touchdown against Washington, Jones would’ve gone without a score for the second straight week as well. He should be a safe bet to dominate the Saints though. At the end of the day he’s one of the best receivers in the game.
New Orleans Saints
After missing time earlier this year with a shoulder injury, quarterback Drew Brees is back. His return couldn’t have come soon enough as the team found itself quickly falling behind in the division race ... though last week didn’t do much to change that. Brees is going to have to throw the ball a lot against the Falcons to keep the game close and that should work to the advantage of his fantasy owners.
Without a doubt a solid performance from the quarterback will put big smiles on the faces of fantasy owners who have been waiting for Brandin Cooks to bust out. He finally did last week catching five passes for 107 yards and his first touchdown of the season. Cooks’ yardage total last week represents one third of the yards he’s amassed for the entirety of this season so far. Hopefully he can keep a good thing going and perform against the archrival Falcons.
