Fantasy football projections, Week 6: Panthers-Seahawks featuring Cam Newton, Russell Wilson and Jimmy Graham
We break down the Week 6 matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the Seattle Seahawks.
Carolina Panthers
Quarterback Cam Newton is on pace for a career high 172 rush attempts this season. That would go far beyond his previous career mark of 129. That’s what happens when your team doesn’t have a running game, but it suits the Panthers’ coaching staff just fine to let the team’s highest-paid player be the MVP.
To see Newton matchup against Russell Wilson on the other side of the football will make the contest very exciting for viewers and should see fantasy points a plenty scored on both ends for their respective owners. The only other reliable offensive weapon the Panthers possess is tight end Greg Olsen.
Olsen probably hasn’t produced at a clip as high as people expected coming into the season given that teammate Kelvin Benjamin tore his left ACL in training camp. The bulk of Olsen’s 243 receiving yards and both of his touchdowns came in the same game. He will need to produce more regularly to justify his draft position, and that’s going to be a tall order in Seattle this week.
Seattle Seahawks
When the Seattle Seahawks traded center Max Unger to the New Orleans Saints in the offseason for tight end Jimmy Graham, it looked like the Seahawks stole the deal by landing the big name. Heading into Week 6, quarterback Russell Wilson is on pace to get sacked more than 70 times. He would be just the third quarterback in history to reach that mark and it’s affecting his fantasy performance greatly. Look for the Panthers to blitz often and look for Wilson to take off running as he usually does.
Perhaps he will look to his oft-mentioned safety valve Mr. Jimmy Graham. Graham complained a few weeks ago about not being involved enough in the offense. It works temporarily, allowing him to put up numbers back in Week 3. Since then however he has just 59 yards receiving total. He’s definitely one of the biggest disappointments of 2015, and it doesn’t appear he’ll be trending upwards in terms of fantasy value anytime soon.
