Fantasy football projections, Week 6: Ravens-49ers featuring Kamar Aiken, Carlos Hyde and Anquan Boldin
We break down the Week 6 matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers.
Baltimore Ravens
Wide receiver Steve Smith’s status is up in the air for Sunday’s game as he continues to recover from small fractures in his back. His recent absence has forced teammate Kamar Aiken to step up to the plate in the passing game. Aiken caught four passes for 78 yards against the Cleveland Browns last week. He’s not going to wow anybody with huge yardage totals, but he will surely be heavily targeted until Smith or tight end Crockett Gillmore return to the lineup. Those betting on at least one Ravens receiver having a big game against the 49ers should roll with Aiken.
Aiken’s passes will come from quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco isn’t exactly a top-notch fantasy quarterback, but this year he’s put up some numbers that make the idea of starting him a good one. He only threw one touchdown pass against the Browns last week but he managed to sneak into the end zone twice on the ground which really padded his stats. Flacco should be able to get his share of points against the 49ers, a team that hasn’t exactly shut down quarterbacks this season.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers were oh-so-close to securing their second win of the season against the New York Giants last week until Eli Manning led his team to a game-winning drive with less than two minutes to go. It was disheartening for San Francisco, but the good news is that Colin Kaepernick looked to have himself together in the second half. He was able to find Anquan Boldin eight times for 107 yards and a touchdown. Boldin’s previous top yardage mark on the year was just 60 yards, so to see him bust out and have a big game for fantasy owners was refreshing. He should be busy against his former teammates on Sunday.
The same goes for running back Carlos Hyde. Hyde struggled in the first half against the Giants last week, but a strong second half allowed him to finish with 93 yards rushing and a touchdown. He powered through the Giants’ front line and seemed to give the 49ers all the momentum in the world before the defense allowed a late touchdown which led to another loss. Hyde is the one player in the 49ers’ offense who can be started with confidence.
