Fantasy football projections, Week 6: Patriots-Colts featuring Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Andrew Luck
We break down the Week 6 matchup between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.
New England Patriots
Even with a Colts team motivated to avenge its loss to the Patriots in last year’s AFC Championship and the Deflategate debacle that came with it, it doesn’t seem like anybody is going to stop quarterback Tom Brady, who is also very motivated in his own right for similar reasons. Brady’s 275 yards and two touchdowns last week against the Dallas Cowboys represented his lowest totals of the season. Those totals would satisfy almost any fantasy owner most weeks. Brady’s ability to dominate is unlike anyone else in the game. He should continue to do so against Indianapolis, even if his opponents are indeed motivated to send a message to Brady and the boys.
As Brady goes, so goes tight end Rob Gronkowski. Gronk is coming off his least productive game of the season. He finished with four catches for 67 yards in Dallas. Those results aren’t exactly typical for the league’s best tight end. Gronk should be back to his old self in the Sunday night showdown, which should mean he gets back into the end zone, especially given that he has now gone two straight games without doing so. Aside from Brady, Gronk is the most important offensive weapon the team has.
Indianapolis Colts
Although the Indianapolis Colts haven’t missed a beat with Andrew Luck on the sidelines, still managing to secure two straight wins, the franchise player will likely be back in the lineup for a huge contest against the Patriots. Luck was one of the top players in fantasy football last season, but this year has been a bit of a different story. That said, he still throws the ball at a high volume and, against the Patriots, he’ll have to prove not only that his shoulder is in good shape, but also that he can come up with a big performance against his arch nemesis. Both Luck and Tom Brady should be throwing a lot of touchdowns on Sunday night, which means huge numbers for the home team’s quarterback.
Perhaps Luck’s return will provide a boost to wide receiver Donte Moncrief, who was held to a single catch against the Houston Texans last week. His performance was largely a byproduct of teammate Andre Johnson being set up to succeed against his former club. Johnson caught six passes in the game for 77 yards and two touchdowns. It remains to be seen whether or not the performance was enough to eat into Moncrief’s snaps, but it’s more than likely that Moncrief is the wide receiver to own between the two going forward.
