Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is dealing with a sprained MCL in his knee. Although he didn’t practice on Thursday, he may be able to do so on Friday according to beat writer Jim Wyatt. After looking spectacular in the first game of his NFL career, Mariota’s quarterback rating has now dropped four weeks in a row.
Marcus Mariota could very well practice on Friday, starting for fantasy owners on Sunday isn’t out of the question
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota is dealing with a sprained MCL but will try to practice on Friday. We break down the fantasy implications.
Fantasy impact: It initially seemed like a long shot for Mariota to play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, but the coaching staff now seems pretty optimistic that he at least has an outside chance.
Perhaps it doesn’t matter to the average fantasy owner anyway. Mariota was one of the hottest pickups on the waiver wire going into Week 2, but now he’s probably available in standard formats featuring both 10- and 12-team leagues. Maybe he rose to the top a little too quickly this year.
Fantasy owners will want to monitor Mariota’s status mostly because of how it might affect players like tight end Delanie Walker. It’ll be interesting to see whether he can play through what is normally considered a multi-week injury in most cases. If Mariota can’t start, Zach Mettenberger will be under center against the Falcons.
