We break down the Week 8 matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots.
Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins posted a whopping 44 points on the board last week against the Houston Texans. Much of the offensive outburst was thanks to quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who threw a season-high four touchdown passes and completed an incredible 18-of-19 passes for 282 yards. He was so on point the game was over before it began and on top of that, Tannehill didn’t throw an interception. Picks had plagued him in the two games prior to the matchup against the Texans. It’s undoubtedly going to be difficult to beat the Patriots, but if Tannehill some how strings together another epic performance on Thursday night, New England could be in for a big surprise.
And if wide receiver Jarvis Landry performs well, it will be anything but a big surprise. He’s been the team’s best fantasy player all year long. He too had an efficient day against the Texans last week, catching all five of his targets for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Landry normally sees double digits in targets and given he’s playing against a high-octane offense like the New England Patriots, there’s no reason for that not to hold true in Week 8.
New England Patriots
After six games and a bye week it’s clear that no professional football team in the world can stop quarterback Tom Brady. He’s thrown 16 touchdowns this season compared to just one interception and he’s thrown at least two touchdowns in every single game. The Dolphins have been looking like a new team lately and appear to be rolling, but the buck likely stops at Gillette Stadium, where most visiting teams have trouble winning. Brady should be able to do what he’s been doing all year long, although the odds would tell you that the Patriots are bound to lose a game or have an off night eventually.
Hopefully wide receiver Brandon LaFell doesn’t have an off night. He’s been picked up off of waiver wires in deeper leagues now that he’s officially back to playing. And although the team’s offense appeared to be rolling against the New York Jets last week, LaFell dropped six of the eight passes thrown to him in his season debut. It’s clear he’s a little bit rusty. Hopefully he can work some of it off and provide fantasy value to owners who may have already been holding onto him for a week or two.
