San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis is listed as doubtful for the team's Week 4 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Davis did not participate in practice any day this week and was never realistically expected to play.
Vernon Davis injury update: TE doubtful for 49ers, fantasy owners
The San Francisco 49ers tight end is listed as doubtful. We break down the fantasy implications.
Fantasy impact: With Davis out of the line up, Garrett Celek projects as the next man up with Vance McDonald also factoring into the mix. Even with Davis active, Celek has managed to carve out a small role for himself. Through three games, Celek as hauled in eight catches for 79 yards. While the production is certainly nothing to write home about, it's not that bad when one considers that he's the No. 2 tight end in a run-heavy offense.
The 49ers are likely to find themselves throwing more than usual this week as they take on Aaron Rodgers and the high-scoring Packers offense. Green Bay's defense also allows the 13th-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Celek is a decent TE2 play and managers could do much worse for a streamer.
