Fantasy football projections, Week 10: Vikings-Raiders featuring Adrian Peterson, Stefon Diggs and Derek Carr
We break down the Week 10 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Oakland Raiders.
Minnesota Vikings
It’s not yet known if quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be able to play against the Oakland Raiders this week after he suffered a head injury last week against the St. Louis Rams. If it just so happens he doesn’t play, running back Adrian Peterson may have to take on even more work than usual as the team heads for the West Coast. That’s good news for his fantasy owners given that the Pittsburgh Steelers’ DeAngelo Williams rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns against the silver and black last week. Peterson will undoubtedly perform against Oakland.
There’s a good chance wide receiver Stefon Diggs will too. After being on fire for several weeks and quickly rising to fantasy stardom, Diggs was finally blanketed by the Rams last week. He caught just three passes for 42 yards in the contest. Given that the Raiders are one of the worst teams in the league against the pass and they gave up 17 catches and 284 yards to Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown last week, Diggs could be back to doing touchdown celebrations and then some in Week 10.
Oakland Raiders
The fact that the Raiders got totally pounded on defense last week isn’t exactly a newsflash. The good news is that quarterback Derek Carr still gave his team a chance to win, as the Raiders only lost to the Steelers by a field goal despite giving up 38 points. It should come as no surprise then that Carr threw four touchdown passes to go with 300-plus yards for the second game in a row in the losing effort. He likely won’t need to do that against the Vikings, but regardless of the game-flow situation, the fact that he has 19 touchdown passes on the season compared to just four interceptions is a sign the sophomore passer is finally making his mark as a future NFL star. Carr could take fantasy owners far this week against the Vikes.
Hopefully his rise leads wide receiver Amari Cooper to another solid day. Cooper caught seven passes for 88 yards and a touchdown last week. It’s clear that while he still has some work to do to be a top-notch fantasy contributor over the course of a full season, he has all the raw tools and ability to make it happen. At the same time, it should be noted that Minnesota ranks in the top 10 in terms of both yards and touchdowns allowed to wide receivers. That means if Cooper is going to deliver the goods in Week 10, he’s going to have to earn it.
