Fantasy football projections, Week 10: Chiefs-Broncos featuring Jeremy Maclin, Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas
We break down the Week 10 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos.
Kansas City Chiefs
Jeremy Maclin isn't having the season most fantasy owners hoped he would when they drafted him. He's only crossed the 100-yard receiving plateau twice this season, something he used to do with regularity as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Life is about to get tougher for Maclin owners. The Denver Broncos are straight up shutting down all of the league's top receivers this year. Nobody has surpassed 100 yards this season against them this season. Savvy owners may have the first-year member of the Chiefs on the sidelines this week
The fact it's going to be a challenge to move the ball down the field via the passing game this week means the Chiefs will likely rely on running back Charcandrick West to keep things moving. West has carried the ball at least 20 times in both games he's started for the team since Jamaal Charles was pronounced out for the season. West has managed to average 103.5 yards rushing and a touchdown per contest in those games, and Week 10 should see the Chiefs use West's effectiveness to their advantage again. That should help fantasy owners this week.
Denver Broncos
It's obvious the Broncos are officially a defense-first type of team this season as Peyton Manning's gradual decline continues to be put on display. Hopefully a solid effort from wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders helps out the passing game a bit. Sanders caught eight passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns against the Chiefs back in Week 2 and he should find his share of space out of the slot position this week. Although he hasn't amassed anywhere near the number of receptions he had at this time last year, Sanders is still a PPR machine and should be in for a busy afternoon against the Chiefs.
Perhaps Demaryius Thomas can follow suit and put together a big game himself. It's certainly been a disappointing season for him, however. As hard as it is to believe, Thomas has just a single touchdown on the season this year. The good news is he did have one of the better games of his season against the Chiefs in Week 2, catching eight passes for 118 yards. A repeat performance even without a score would be enough to please fantasy owners this time around, given the struggles the quarterback has had this season.
