Fantasy football advice, Week 10: Who to start/sit for Cowboys vs. Buccaneers
If Dallas wants any chance to save its season, it needs a win Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys came into the season as a theoretical NFC contender, but injuries and ineffective play have the team at 2-6. If Dallas wants any shot at a run down the stretch once all the weapons are back, it needs a win Sunday against the 3-5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Dallas quarterback Matt Cassel, running back Christine Michael and wide receiver Dez Bryant were all on the weekly injury report, though all three are expected to play Sunday, with only Bryant apparently likely to be less than 100 percent. For the Buccaneers, wide receiver Vincent Jackson will miss his third straight game with a knee injury. Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins was expected to make his return from a shoulder injury this week, but at this point he's questionable at best and it wouldn't be a surprise if he's inactive yet again.
The Buccaneers will host the Cowboys Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Let’s take a look at the fantasy names to consider:
COWBOYS
Start ‘em: Since seizing the team's No. 1 role at running back, Darren McFadden has averaging 14.3 fantasy points a game. He's a must-start. ... Dez Bryant showed signs of his normal self in Week 9, and that ought to continue. ... Dan Bailey had four fantasy points in Week 3. He's had at least eight in all the rest of his games this year.
Start ‘em?: Since an 18-point Week 1, Jason Witten has averaged barely four fantasy points a game.
Sit ‘em: It was finally a productive game for Matt Cassel in Week 9, with 22 fantasy points, but he's still Matt Cassel, and you still want to look elsewhere. ... Bryant is back, sending Terrance Williams to the waiver wire. ... Don't believe in Cole Beasley's monster Week 9. ... The Cowboys' defense put up 20 in Week 2, and has four fantasy points combined since.
BUCCANEERS
Start ‘em: One more week for Doug Martin in the must-start range among running backs, but his recent struggles are pulling him down. ... Mike Evans looked rough in Week 9 with his drops, but even with that, he put up 13 points. It's nice being your team's only legitimate weapon. ... Connor Barth has kicked four games for the Buccaneers this year. In those four games, he has 51 fantasy points. That's huge.
Start ‘em?: The most average fantasy quarterback this year has been Jameis Winston; he hasn't had fewer than 12 fantasy points in a game or more than 19. He's not going to kill you, but he certainly won't win you the game. ... If Martin's struggles continue, Charles Sims stands to benefit, though he has a super low floor. ... The Buccaneers' defense is averaging 7.3 fantasy points a game in its last four. It doesn't have the highest ceiling, but it's going against Matt Cassel.
Sit ‘em: At this point, I’d bet against Austin Seferian-Jenkins even playing Sunday, but even if he does, better to give him a week active before putting him back in lineups.
