Fantasy football projections, Week 11: Titans-Jaguars featuring Marcus Mariota, Blake Bortles and Allen Hurns
We break down the Week 11 matchup between the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tennessee Titans
As often is the case with a rookie quarterback, Marcus Mariota has been on again, off again all year long. Unfortunately for his fantasy owners, last week he was off again in a loss to the Carolina Panthers. It’s not like people didn’t see it coming against a formidable opponent, but the end result was ugly nonetheless. Mariota completed just 16 passes for 185 yards. He also threw an interception in the contest and failed to find the end zone for a touchdown. It wasn’t all his fault, as the Titans ran just 46 offensive plays in the game. Mariota should bounce back against the Jaguars this week.
Hopefully the likelihood of that means running back Antonio Andrews will also be in for a better day. He looked pretty solid in his first two games as the team’s feature rusher, but Andrews was also held in check by the Panthers. He ran for just eight yards on 11 carries. Clearly any running back would be expected to do better than that at the NFL level, so as much as the totals may be alarming, Andrews can only go up from here. He will, however, have to do it against an improved Jaguars defense. Still, his prospects in Week 11 are better than they were against the Panthers last week.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Despite the team having just a 3-6 record in the lowly AFC South, quarterback Blake Bortles is actually proving he’s a somewhat worthy starting candidate in the fantasy football world. He has at least two touchdown passes in each of the last five games and, given that his team often plays from behind, Bortles is usually forced to rack up the passing yardage. It’s not the ideal reason to be productive, but it all counts in fantasy football. It’s too bad that a tasty matchup on paper against the Baltimore Ravens last week only resulted in 188 yards, but that total should be better against the Titans. The true limiting factor in Botles’ performances this season has been his affinity for throwing interceptions. Hopefully he can keep that in check this time around.
Either way, he should be able to keep teammate Allen Hurns on his radar. There’s no reason not to. Hurns has been an incredibly consistent performer this season, making him an absolute gold mine in head-to-head formats. He’s found the end zone in every game since being shut out the first two weeks of the season. He also has at least 60 yards receiving in all but two games this year. Hurns will rarely get over the 70-yard plateau in a game, but he’s a scoring machine, which counts in any fantasy football format.
