Fantasy football projections, Week 11: Packers-Vikings featuring Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Peterson and Stefon Diggs
We break down the Week 11 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings.
Green Bay Packers
All of a sudden the Packers appear to be mired in quite the struggle. The team has lost three straight games. Week 8’s defeat at the hands of the Denver Broncos wasn’t pretty for Aaron Rodgers, but in the two games since, he has actually thrown for 702 yards, six touchdown passes and just one interception trying to lead his team to comeback victories. It’s a roundabout way of doing well for fantasy owners, but said owners probably don’t care. It seems like Rodgers will put up solid numbers regardless of the flow of the game.
While Rodgers’ touchdowns have mostly fallen into the hands of tight ends and receivers, running back James Starks still seems to find a way to get his share of fantasy points. Last week he finished with 96 total yards, more than half of which came via the passing game. Two weeks ago he had six catches for 83 yards in the passing game. It’s clear that Starks is outplaying teammate Eddie Lacy at the moment, but at the same time his value is more apparent in PPR leagues than traditional for obvious reasons.
Minnesota Vikings
Considering the way the season began for both the Vikings and Packers, few would have guessed that it would be the Vikings who hold the division lead going into Week 11. A big reason for the team’s success this season is none other than running back Adrian Peterson. He ran for a season-high 203 rushing yards against the Oakland Raiders last week. It’s the highest single game total any running back has registered this year, with a big chunk of it coming on an 80-yard dash to the end zone with less than two minutes remaining in the game. It looks like the best running back in football has officially found his legs. Green Bay better be scared.
What makes the Vikings even more threatening offensively is that for once it looks like they have a true No. 1 receiver in Stefon Diggs. That said, Diggs has just five catches for 88 yards and a touchdown in the last two weeks combined. He should be able to get going again against a Packers defense that ranks in the lower half of the league when it comes to limiting wide receivers. But as always, the offense revolves around the running game in Minnesota.
