Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer (concussion) has been ruled out for the team's Week 11 matchup against the New York Jets.
Brian Hoyer injury update: QB ruled out for Texans, fantasy owners
The Houston Texans quarterback has been ruled out for Week 11. We break down the fantasy implications.
Hoyer did not participate in practice any day this week and remains in concussion protocol. He has a decent chance to be clear by Week 12 but T.J. Yates will get the start this Sunday.
Fantasy impact: All things considered, Yates filled in admirably for Hoyer last week against the then-undefeated Cincinnati Bengals.
Yates hadn’t played a snap since Week 3 of 2014 but managed to keep the momentum going for the Texans as he tossed the game-winning pass to DeAndre Hopkins.
That being said, owners in need of a Hoyer/bye week fill-in can likely do better on the waiver wire than Yates. He’ll have another stiff test to deal with in the Jets defense that gives up the ninth-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
The Texans are also likely to be as run-heavy as possible and use Yates in a game-manager role to limit turnovers. He’s a bottom-barrel option in two-QB leagues and not on the radar in standard leagues.
