Fantasy football projections, Week 12: Bears-Packers featuring Matt Forte, Aaron Rodgers and James Jones
We break down the Week 12 matchup between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.
Chicago Bears
After putting together respectable fantasy numbers for over a month straight, quarterback Jay Cutler was humbled by the Denver Broncos last week. Even with opposing quarterback Peyton Manning on the sidelines, Cutler still couldn’t get anything going against a solid Broncos defense. He threw for just 265 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. This week’s stat line should tell a different tale as the Green Bay Packers are slightly more forgiving defensively. That means Cutler could be a good bounce-back candidate in Week 12.
That’s especially true considering running back Matt Forte confirmed on Wednesday that he would be back in the lineup against the Packers. He’s missed the last three games with a sprained MCL, and although the thought earlier this season was that he would no longer be the focal point of the team’s offense, actual games have demonstrated that he is still the team’s engine. Forte has just two rushing touchdowns on the season but his pass-catching ability makes him a lethal threat in PPR formats.
Green Bay Packers
After having to stomach three straight losses, Aaron Rodgers finally found a way to get the Packers back on the winning track in a huge game against the Minnesota Vikings last week. He threw for just 212 yards and two touchdowns, but the team put up 30 points in an efficient effort. It’s funny the way fantasy football works. A-Rod actually posted better numbers in the team’s previous two games trying to come from behind. He probably won’t have to do that against the Bears, but it doesn’t mean that he won’t come up with spectacular fantasy stats.
As for wide receiver James Jones, there’s no telling how effective he will be in fantasy lineups this week. He started off as one of the biggest surprises of 2015. Then he was practically ice cold for four straight weeks. All of a sudden last week, he goes off for six catches, 109 yards, a touchdown and a two-point conversion. The outburst serves to show that the Packers’ offense has the ability to explode any given week. It’ll be interesting to see if Jones can put together a big game in two straight games however, something he hasn’t done in a while.
